A glimpse of the past…a plan for the future!
Berryville is the seat of Clarke County, one of the smallest of Virginia’s counties, a largely agricultural area with a history rich in significance to our nation, a history that includes George Washington, the origins of our nation, and the Civil War conflict.
The barns of Rose Hill
Park are
two early 20th-Century dairy barns that were part of a farm
estate
donated to the Town of Berryville in 1964 by Mr. Horace Smithy, who
had named the farm
after his beautiful and beloved wife, Rosalie. And so
Berryville won a lovely four-acre
park that became a central focus of
community activities through the years. As the town
developed around the
barns and park grounds, it was clear the old barns could contribute
in a
significant way.

Restored for a life of service, the barns offers a
center for community,
arts and education to the people of Berryville,
Clarke County and the broader Shenandoah
Valley and northern Virginia
communities.
Barns of Rose Hill, Inc. was formed in September 2004 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization to raise funds for the restoration of the barns and to establish a program endowment.
