Saturday May 12 & Sunday May 13 – “Garden Fair Marks Mother's Day Weekend” Arboretum's Annual Sale is a

Great Treat for Mom! 9 AM - 4:30 PM. Get ready for Spring! The State Arboretum of Virginia will host its 23rd annual Garden Fair celebration Mother’s Day weekend, May 12 & 13, 2012 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 both days. Garden Fair is presented by the Foundation of the State Arboretum and is underwritten by BB&T.
Garden Fair is a huge plant and garden supply sale, and also features an entire weekend of free events, including guided tours, activities for children (children's events are 10 to 4 Saturday and Noon to 4 Sunday), food, and more. Admission is $10 per car; all activities and events are free.
Last year, more than 80 Garden Fair vendors field the outdoor event, offering native plants, perennials, annuals, small trees, shrubs, bonsai, berry bushes, and more. In addition, Garden Fair vendors will offer botanical skin care products, handcrafted copper items, garden art, garden tools, trellises, pottery, gourmet food items, and more. Vendors from several states bring their products to Garden Fair.
The State Arboretum of Virginia is on Route 50 in Clarke County, Virginia, about 10 miles east of Winchester and 20 minutes west of Middleburg, in the historic northern Shenandoah Valley. The 175-acre Arboretum is part of Blandy Experimental Farm, a research field station for the University of Virginia.

Sunday March 18 - Saturday May 12 – “New Exhibits at Barns of Rose Hill: Blandy Sketch Group Member Art

Exhibit & POSITIVE EXPOSURE.” The Blandy Sketch Group brings together more than 20 artists of all levels of experience who share a love of the natural world as inspiration for their art.  Meetings are held from 1:00 – 3:00 pm on the first Thursday of each month at the Blandy Experimental Farm in Clarke County, home of the State Arboretum of Virginia.  Monthly programs of sketching, workshops and presentations are planned by the group each year to foster creative growth and share ideas. Sunday April 15 through Tuesday July 10 – “Only in Virginia Photo Show Features 11 Photographers”

Fifty photographs are on exhibit through July 10 in the third annual ‘Only in Virginia’ photo show and sale at Blandy Experimental Farm in Clarke County. The exhibit is presented by the Blandy Photo Club and includes work from 11 local photographers. An opening reception Sunday, April 15, from 2 to 5 p.m. will offer a chance to meet the artists and enjoy light refreshments. After the opening reception the show will be open 10 to 4 daily. All photos in the show were taken in Virginia and feature sweeping landscapes, intimate macros, and images of natural beauty. All photos are for sale and prices range from $25 to $250. The Foundation of the State Arboretum will receive a 30 percent commission on all sales.
The Blandy Photo Club meets at 7 p.m. the first Tuesday of each month in the library at Blandy Experimental Farm on Route 50 in Clarke County. Blandy is a field research station for the University of Virginia and is also home to the State Arboretum of Virginia.

Monday July 9 – Friday July 27 – “Summer Nature Camps at the State Arboretum of Virginia” 

Summer is approaching -- it's time to reserve space in Blandy's Summer Nature Camps. These camps get kids outdoors, where they can explore the plants and animals of our woods, meadows, and wetlands.

In "Animals without Skeletons" (July 9-13), rising 1st through 4th graders will search for, identify, and observe insects, spiders, and other invertebrates. 
In "Living in Nature" (July 16-20), kids in this same age group will find and investigate plants, mammals, birds, and other organisms found on our 700 acres.
"EcoExplorers" (July 23-27) is aimed at rising 5th through 8th graders. Kids in this camp collect and analyze data in order to answer questions they propose, then present their findings on the last morning.
Cost for each camp is $90 for members of the Foundation of the State Arboretum (FOSA) and $100 for nonmembers. Families registering for more than one child or camp pay just $80 per camp for FOSA members and $90 per camp for nonmembers. Call 540-837-1758 Ext. 224 for information and registration.

Every Third Tuesday – A newly formed group, “The Middle Potomac History Researchers”, which focuses on local

history and genealogy research on the North Central Potomac River watershed meets at Josephine School Community Museum, 4:00 - 6:00 PM. The region includes the Virginia counties of Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William, Fauquier, Clarke and Frederick; the West Virginia counties of Jefferson, Berkeley, Morgan, Hampshire, and Hardy; and the Maryland counties of Carroll, Frederick, Washington, and Allegany. We have particular interest in African American history. The purpose of the group is to share our knowledge and enthusiasm and to learn more from one another. The group is modeled after the central Virginia History Researchers which meets monthly in Charlottesville.
