About the Exhibition: Join us for a reception to celebrate the opening of Franklin, a traveling exhibition from the Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center in Santa Rosa, California.
This compelling exhibition explores the history and significance of Franklin, the first Black character to appear in Charles Schulz’s iconic Peanuts comic strip. Introduced in 1968, shortly after the assassination of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Franklin’s character was inspired by a heartfelt letter from schoolteacher Harriet Glickman urging Schulz to promote inclusion through his work. Highlighting Schulz’s thoughtful response to that call, Franklin showcases how the comic strip positively influenced attitudes on race in America.
We invite you to view this meaningful exhibition, after hours, and enjoy light refreshments as we celebrate the legacy and impact of Peanuts.
Franklin is organized and toured by the Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center, Santa Rosa, California. It is sponsored locally by The Power of Change, a grant program through Rappahannock Electric Cooperative.
