About the Exhibition: We’ve so enjoyed hosting Franklin, a traveling exhibition from the Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center in Santa Rosa, California, that shares the story of the first Black character to appear in Charles Schulz’s iconic Peanuts comic strip.
In 1968, just months after the assassination of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Franklin joined the Peanuts gang—his debut inspired by a heartfelt letter from schoolteacher Harriet Glickman urging Schulz to integrate the strip. The exhibition brings this exchange to life, showcasing Schulz’s thoughtful response as an early example of how positive representation in the media can influence social attitudes about race.
This is your last chance to experience the exhibition and celebrate the legacy and impact of Peanuts! Dress as your favorite character and join us for refreshments and a variety of themed activities for kids and adults—from crafts and a scavenger hunt to trivia and games. This free celebration promises fun for the whole family.
Franklin is organized and toured by the Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center, Santa Rosa, California. It is sponsored locally by the Marion Park Lewis Foundation and The Power of Change, a grant program through Rappahannock Electric Cooperative.
