About: Looking for your summer read?

In collaboration with the Clarke County Library, we invite you to join us in a community-wide reading of Schulz and Peanuts: A Biography by acclaimed biographer David Michaelis.

We’ll come together on Tuesday, August 26, for a group discussion featuring a live virtual Q&A with the author. A limited number of used copies of the book are available to borrow from the Barns of Rose Hill upon request. All readers are welcome!

This program is presented alongside Franklin, a traveling exhibition from the Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center in Santa Rosa, California—on display at the Barns from June 7 through August 31. Exhibition Info »

About the Book: Charles M. Schulz, the most widely syndicated and beloved cartoonist of all time, is also one of the least understood figures in American culture. Now, acclaimed biographer David Michaelis gives us the first full-length biography of the brilliant, unseen man behind Peanuts: at once a creation story, a portrait of a native genius, and a chronicle contrasting the private man with the central role he played in shaping the national imagination. Schulz and Peanuts is the definitive epic biography of an American icon and the unforgettable characters he created.

About the Author: David Michaelis grew up in Cambridge, Mass., and Washington, D. C., was educated at Concord Academy and Princeton University, and is the author of six books, including the national bestsellers N. C. Wyeth, which won the 1999 Ambassador Book Award for Biography, and Schulz and Peanuts, a National Book Critics Circle Best Recommended Book. He lives in Westchester County, N. Y., with his family.

Date & Time: Tuesday, August 26, 2025. Doors open at 5:30 PM, and book club begins at 6:00 PM with a virtual Q&A with author, David Michaelis.

Registration Fee: Book club is free to attend, but registration is encouraged.

Registration Information: Register in advance online or by calling the Barns of Rose Hill Box Office at 540-955-2004 (hours). When our Box Office is closed, please leave a message.
