About: Join us for a warm and engaging evening with Brenda Waugh, a local attorney passionate about restorative justice, as she celebrates the launch of her new book Becoming a Restorative Lawyer: How to Transform Your Legal Practice for Self, Client, and Community Growth. Brenda will be joined by Howard Zehr, Distinguished Professor of Restorative Justice at Eastern Mennonite University and a pioneer in the modern restorative justice movement. Also an accomplished photographer, Zehr’s images serve as visual metaphors for the book’s main ideas.
Restorative justice is an approach to addressing harm that emphasizes accountability, healing, and repairing relationships rather than punishment. It seeks to bring together those who have caused harm, those who have been affected, and members of the broader community to foster understanding, dialogue, and mutual responsibility. In the legal field, restorative practices encourage lawyers, judges, and clients to move beyond adversarial processes and toward solutions that promote empathy, transformation, and community well-being.
Together, Waugh and Zehr will explore how restorative principles can reshape the practice of law, strengthen communities, and promote healing over punishment—offering a hopeful vision for how justice can serve both personal and collective growth.
Whether you’re curious about restorative practices, interested in justice reform, or just looking for a meaningful conversation, come enjoy an evening of dialogue, ideas, and connection.
