About: Ken & Brad Kolodner are a father-son acoustic roots duo from Baltimore, celebrated for their dynamic blend of tradition and innovation in Old Time music. Ken is a master of the hammered dulcimer and a skilled fiddler, known for his decades-long career performing with the folk trio Helicon and elevating the dulcimer’s presence in traditional music. Brad, a gifted clawhammer banjoist and composer, grew up surrounded by music and has developed a distinct style that honors the past while embracing new ideas.
Together, Ken and Brad share an unmistakable musical chemistry rooted in years of collaboration, communication, and family connection. Their performances are marked by tight interplay, rhythmic drive, and a spirit of exploration that resonates deeply with audiences. Joining the duo are bassist Alex Lacquement and multi-instrumentalist Rachel Eddy. Beyond performing, Ken and Brad are dedicated educators, teaching at camps and workshops across the U.S. They co-direct the Baltimore Old Time Music Festival. Their 2020 album Stony Run reached #4 on the Billboard Bluegrass Chart, and they won the prestigious Clifftop Neo-Traditional Band Contest in 2019. Their work keeps Old Time music vibrant, community-centered, and alive for future generations.
