Leslie Mendelson

  • Barns of Rose Hill 95 Chalmers Court Berryville, VA, 22611 United States (map)

About: Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter Leslie Mendelson has been described by All Music as evoking “1970s songwriter influences in the vein of Carole King and Carly Simon,” while The Aquarian calls her “the closest thing one can get to a truly honest musical experience.”

Although Mendelson’s previous work—including her 2009 Grammy-nominated debut album,—dealt with matters of the heart, the songs that comprise her latest album (‘If You Can’t Say Anything Nice…’) examine the anxiety stemming from the current socio-political climate. Songs like “Medication,” “I Need Something To Care About” and “Would You Give Up Your Gun” offer a fitting extension to the socially conscious outlook in “A Human Touch”—Leslie’s duet with Jackson Browne for the documentary film, 5B.

Mendelson’s timeless musicality and evocative songwriting has caught the attention of some of the most legitimate voices in rock music. Having collaborated with legendary musicians including Jackson Browne, The Grateful Dead’s Bob Weir, and classic rock royalty The Who, there’s no doubt of the rarefied air she inhabits as an artist.
