This VA250 program is part of our Forging a Nation Film Series, presented in partnership with the American Legion Lloyd Williams Post 41.
About: Set against the turbulent years of the American Revolution, The Patriot follows Benjamin Martin, a reluctant hero drawn into the fight for independence after war reaches his own doorstep. As the conflict intensifies across the Southern colonies, Martin joins a militia movement that relies on strategy, resilience, and local knowledge to challenge the British Army.
Featuring an all-star cast, including Mel Gibson and Heath Ledger, this 2000 film blends large-scale battle sequences with a personal story of sacrifice and conviction. While dramatized for the screen, it offers a compelling entry point into the complexities of the Revolutionary era and the individuals who shaped it.
Presented as part of our VA250 Forging a Nation Film Series, this screening invites audiences to reflect on early American history and how stories of the nation’s founding continue to be interpreted and reimagined through film.
This film has been rated R for violence by the Motion Picture Association of America. Viewer discretion is advised. Licensed for public performance through Swank Motion Pictures.
