About Greg Ruby: Guitarist, composer, and educator Greg Ruby “lives and breathes jazz guitar,” according to Fretboard Journal. From jazz manouche to swing and surf, Ruby brings a distinctive voice to each style he explores. Originally from Toronto and raised near Pittsburgh, he moved to the West Coast in the late 1990s, becoming a key figure in the Django Reinhardt revival. He co-founded Hot Club Sandwich and performed with Pearl Django, playing stages across North America and making his debut at the renowned Festival Django Reinhardt in France.
Ruby has shared the stage with legends like Howard Alden, Patrick Saussois, and Frank Vignola. In 2010, he released Look Both Ways, a critically praised album of original Gypsy jazz compositions that hit #1 on the Roots Music Report. His 2015 project Syncopated Classic unearthed and recorded lost works of Seattle jazz pioneer Frank D. Waldron, earning “Northwest Jazz Recording of the Year” by Earshot Jazz.
A dedicated teacher, Ruby has led workshops at Django in June, DjangoFest NW, and more. He’s authored several instructional books and now lives in Rockaway Beach, NYC, where he composes, teaches, and performs, continuing to inspire students and audiences worldwide.
About Sam Farthing: Twenty-one year old Sam Farthing is a skilled guitarist and songwriter from Baltimore, specializing in jazz manouche and gypsy music. At age ten Sam picked up the guitar and soon after started playing the music of his favorite guitarist, Django Reinhardt. With performances around the world at festivals like the Festival Django Reinhardt in France, Djangofest Northwest in Washington, Django sur Lennon in Ireland, Django a Gogo events around the USA, and the Charm City Django Jazz Fest at home in Baltimore, Sam has established himself as a notable figure in the genre. His commitment to musical authenticity and dedication to teaching have made him a respected mentor to many aspiring guitarists.
