About the Program: For nearly two centuries, Vienna stood at the center of the musical world. From the elegant classicism of the late 18th century to the bold innovations of the early 20th century, generations of composers transformed Western music, giving rise to what are now known as the First and Second Viennese Schools. This concert traces that remarkable artistic journey through three iconic works.
The program opens with Schatzwalzer ("Treasure Waltz") by the Waltz King, Johann Strauss II. Drawn from his operetta The Gypsy Baron, this graceful medley captures the warmth, charm, and irresistible dance rhythms that made Vienna famous. The version performed tonight was arranged for chamber ensemble by Anton Webern, a devoted student of Arnold Schoenberg. Webern's delicate, transparent orchestration reveals new colors and textures while paying tribute to the beloved music of an earlier Viennese tradition.
From there, we step back to one of the best-loved works of the Classical era: Mozart's Eine kleine Nachtmusik. Written in 1787, this sparkling serenade remains one of the most recognizable pieces in the orchestral repertoire. Its memorable melodies, lively wit, and exquisite craftsmanship embody the balance, elegance, and expressive brilliance that define Mozart's genius.
The concert concludes with Schoenberg's groundbreaking Chamber Symphony No. 1 for 15 solo instruments. Composed in 1906, the work bridges the rich harmonic language of late Romanticism with the revolutionary ideas that would reshape twentieth-century music. Condensing the power and scope of a full symphony into a chamber ensemble, the piece is both virtuosic and remarkably inventive, offering a compelling glimpse into the musical future while remaining deeply rooted in Vienna's extraordinary artistic legacy.

Ticket Price: All tickets are general admission. $35 in advance until 12:00 PM on the day of the event. $40 at the door. Children 12 years and below are free when accompanied by an adult.
