About: Local author C.W. Armbrust celebrates the release of his new historical novel, Cibola, with an afternoon presentation, discussion, and book signing. Set in sixteenth-century New Spain and the unexplored lands to the north, the novel follows Franciscan friar Marcos de Niza as he is drawn from missionary work in Guatemala into a sweeping expedition that would help shape the future of Mexico and the American Southwest. Through adventure, exploration, and historical detail, Cibola brings to life a little-known figure whose journey paved the way for Coronado’s infamous search for the legendary cities of gold.
During the program, Armbrust will share insights into the historical background of the novel and the process of bringing this story to life. Copies of Cibola will be available for purchase and signing following the presentation.
About the Author: C.W. Armbrust grew up in the American Southwest and later worked throughout the western United States in the mining industry following military service in Vietnam. Now retired in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, he has devoted his time to travel and research focused on the history of the Southwest and Mexico, which inspired his historical novel Cibola.
