Introduction to Color Theory

  • Barns of Rose Hill 95 Chalmers Court Berryville, VA (map)

About the Class: Step into the world of color with artist and educator Pam Klein in this five-week workshop, inspired by color theorist Josef Albers and his groundbreaking book Interaction of Color.

Through experiments with colored paper, participants will explore how color behaves and transforms in different contexts, how perception shapes what we see, and how color can communicate and express emotion. Emphasizing direct observation and discovery, the class will help students develop a deeper sensitivity to color in their own creative practice.

Klein, an Emeritus Professor of Fine Art at Parsons School of Design and an adjunct professor at Shenandoah University, has spent decades exploring the emotional and physical power of color. Participants will leave with a richer understanding of color, new ways to see and communicate it, and fresh inspiration for their own creative work. The workshop will take place in the gallery amid Klein’s vibrant paintings from Color Stories, offering an immersive encounter with her work and a unique source of inspiration.

This workshop is limited to a maximum of 15 participants; it will not proceed with fewer than 8.

Date & Time: Saturday, May 9, May 16, May 23, May 30, June 6. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. Each two-hour class begins at 10:00 a.m. and will conclude by 12:00 p.m.
